Nickname: Mantabat

Bat Power: Fly

Manta Ray Power: Fly underwater

Comboanimals Fun bit of Information

Mantabat Is a giant creature that can fly in the air and fly underwater. It’s so adept at flying in both water and air that it can transition seamlessly from one to the other whether by leaping out of water into flight or diving out of the air into water.

Comboanimals Folklore

Groups of mantabats called squadrons have been mistaken for UFO's. They can fly together in numbers of a thousand and will all simultaneously fly out of deep water into the air forming a large shapeshifting black cloud. Then just as easily as they appeared out of water they can disappear back into the depths of water.

Comboanimals Physical description

A Manta Ray with the wings of a bat.

They have a sleek body, like that of a Manta Ray, with a flattened shape and smooth skin. It has a two tone colour, dark gray to midnight black on its top and then a light grey on it’s underside. Its colour enables it to blend seamlessly into the sky or the depths of the ocean. Extending from its sleek body is its remarkable set of bat wings with the membranous structure. These wings enable the Mantabat to effortlessly glide through both the air and water. It’s bat claws allow it to climb. Additionally, it possesses a pair of pointed ears, reminiscent of a bat's, which add to its mysterious allure.

Mantabats are huge, their wingspans are up to 29 feet (8.8 m) wide and they weight up to 5,300 pounds (2,404 kg) making them potentially 34 times bigger than humans.

Comboanimals Information

They are intelligent creatures like their Giant manta rays cousins. They have the biggest brains of any fish studied so far. They use that brain power to learn, exercise their memory, distinguish between objects and even recognise themselves in the mirror. They have similar intelligence to a dolphin.

They have the elegant swimming prowess of a manta ray , gliding effortlessly through the water with its undulating wing-like fins and appearing to fly under water. Like their manta ray cousins they will leap out of the water. This is where the difference between a Mantabat and a manta ray is plain to see. The manatbat once out of the water will fly like a bat and can fly up to 10,000 ft. It can breathe underwater as well as out of water, This dual breathing skill allows the Mantabat to effortlessly transition between the air and water, making it a truly enigmatic creature to observe.

They can dive more than 3,280 feet (1,000 m) underwater, but typically feed only 33 feet (10 m) deep. Mantabat primarily eat plankton by filtering them into their mouth when swimming. When flying they eat insects.

Mantabats are generally solitary throughout their lives, though they do gather for feeding and mating opportunities. A group of Mantabats is called a squadron.

Ratings Reasoning: Very high friendly rating as they are gentle giants, they only feed on plankton and insects and will not attack humans. They will often take flight if attacked.
