However, what sets Batray apart is its remarkable set of wings and claws inherited from the bat, which extend from its sides. These wings, reminiscent of a bat's membranous structure, enable Batray to effortlessly glide through both the air and water. It’s claws allow it to climb. Additionally, it possesses a pair of pointed ears, reminiscent of a bat's, which add to its mysterious allure.
Common batrays have a total width between 46-140 cm and overall disc length of 37-113cm. The typical weight of a Batray is in the range of 14-32kg making them potentially 0.3-0.5 the size of the average adult human.

Like a bat it produces echolocation by emitting high frequency sound pulses through their mouth or nose and listening to the echo. With this echo, the batray can determine the size, shape and texture of objects in its environment helping it navigate its surroundings. They can use their claws to climb and hang upside if they want to rest.
It also displays the elegant swimming prowess of a stingray, gliding effortlessly through the water with its undulating wing-like fins. The Batray, alike to a stingray, have "Lorenzian ampullae" located on their heads, which allow them to sense electrical impulses in the water and find food in the dark.
It can breathe underwater and out of water. It can jump out of water and immediately start flying. This dual skill set allows Batray to effortlessly transition between the air and water, making it a truly enigmatic creature to observe.
They can defend themselves with their barbed which can inject venom into their victim. If someone steps on a sleeping batray (which is often buried in sand) while wading in shallow ocean surf. The batray thrusts its tail spine into the person's foot or leg, releasing venom.
Batray's specialised diet combines elements from both bats and stingrays, resulting in a unique culinary routine. They primarily feed on sea creatures, they possess the stingray's fondness for small fish and crustaceans, utilising its aerial agility to dive into the water and snatch unsuspecting prey. When flying in air they will opportunistically eat nocturnal insects, such as moths and beetles, making the cover of night its prime hunting time.
Batray thrives in forest areas near the sea. They sleep on the sea floor with their body submerged under sand. In the water, it gracefully glides through the depths, exploring coral reefs or submerged caves with the agility of a stingray.
