With a body resembling that of a majestic owl, complete with a vibrant plumage and large, piercing eyes, the Owloctopus features a remarkable twist - instead of legs with talons it has tentacles! In another strange twist it doesn’t have a beak on its face like an owl but instead has an octopus beak positioned in the centre of its tentacles.

Adults typically weigh around 15 kg with a tentacle arm span of up to 4.3 m (14 ft). They are potentially 4 times smaller than the average adult human.

The Owlopus is predominantly a nocturnal hunter, utilizing its exceptional flight capabilities to silently soar through the night sky. When it spots its prey, it swoops down with astonishing precision, using its tentacles to wrap around and immobilize the unfortunate victim. It’s beak, positioned on its underside and in the centre of its tentacles, bites its prey and kills them. This unique hunting strategy allows the Owlopus to effortlessly catch a wide range of prey, from unsuspecting rodents on land, small fish in coastal waters and also smaller birds which it can grab mid flight with its tentacles.
In terms of habitat, it is often found perched on a branch in a tree. It wraps its tentacles right around the branch and can fall asleep without falling off. It can turn its neck 270 degrees to look for prey behind it. They can be found all across Europe and Northern America.
